What is allowed?

Of course, we also like to design our desk individually at work so that we feel comfortable. But what is actually allowed when decorating the office?

From a legal point of view, at least, employees are not entitled to decorate their office. As a rule, however, this does not mean that personal decoration is prohibited in the workplace, but that the possibilities depend on the employer. Depending on how relaxed the atmosphere in your job is, what is and isn’t allowed can vary greatly. If you work in a creative job, you probably have more freedom to decorate your office than if you work in a law firm.

It is also important when decorating the office that fire protection regulations are observed. Therefore, no candles or additional electronic devices are normally allowed to stand or be used on the desk. If you have frequent contact with customers or business partners in your job, this can also play a role in the choice of your office decoration and be a reason why your employer has a say.

And last but not least, you should of course also think about your work colleagues when decorating your office if they are sitting in the same room as you. Because just because you like things colourful and want to hand out holiday souvenirs everywhere doesn’t mean your colleagues have to like it. A good middle ground is the solution here as well.
