Decorating the office: 5 ideas for a productive workplace

Whether at home at the desk or in the office: an inviting workplace makes a significant contribution to our productivity and motivation. Do you want a comfortable desk that you enjoy working at? Then we have a few ideas on how you can decorate the workspace in your office and make it functional without making it look cluttered.

What is allowed?

Of course, we also like to design our desk individually at work so that we feel comfortable. But what is actually allowed when decorating the office?

From a legal point of view, at least, employees are not entitled to decorate their office. As a rule, however, this does not mean that personal decoration is prohibited in the workplace, but that the possibilities depend on the employer. Depending on how relaxed the atmosphere in your job is, what is and isn’t allowed can vary greatly. If you work in a creative job, you probably have more freedom to decorate your office than if you work in a law firm.

It is also important when decorating the office that fire protection regulations are observed. Therefore, no candles or additional electronic devices are normally allowed to stand or be used on the desk. If you have frequent contact with customers or business partners in your job, this can also play a role in the choice of your office decoration and be a reason why your employer has a say.

And last but not least, you should of course also think about your work colleagues when decorating your office if they are sitting in the same room as you. Because just because you like things colourful and want to hand out holiday souvenirs everywhere doesn’t mean your colleagues have to like it. A good middle ground is the solution here as well.

1. Decorate desk storage at office

Nothing is probably worse than a completely cluttered desk on which you can no longer find anything. So before you can even decorate your office, you should first ensure order on your desk. Because desk storage also offers many possibilities.

So-called mini chests of drawers are really practical and beautiful at the same time for your workplace. Paperwork, notes and pens can be optimally stowed away in the small drawers. But small baskets and pen holders are also great for decorating the desk. Your workplace always looks tidy and you still have everything to hand.

2. Decorate office to increase motivation

Are you one of those people who are often overwhelmed by laziness? Then we have the ultimate tip for decorating the office: get pictures or letter boards with motivating slogans. With their simple design, they don’t make your workplace look cluttered, but at the same time ensure that your office looks much nicer. If you keep an eye on motivating sayings every day at work, this can boost your motivation in the long term.

3. Decorate the office: pictures for the office

If you are sitting alone or with only a few colleagues in a room, you can also decorate the wall in your office. Because pictures create a great effect with little effort: They bring color into the room and can improve the mood.

If motivating sayings are not your thing, any other motifs are of course also suitable. When choosing your images, you should only make sure that there is a coherent theme or color scheme so that your workplace does not appear too busy. For example, images in soft or muted colors work well.

4. Decorate the office with plants

Green is very trendy – not only at home, but also in the office. Just one or two plants in the office or on the desk make the room look much fresher. Unlike other office decorations, almost everyone likes plants, and they even have the practical benefit of improving indoor air quality.

Don’t you have the green thumb? Then grab succulents or cacti! They too have long since lost their “grandma image” and are now totally hip. And they are also easy to care for.

5. Decorate office: desk ideas

The overall impression counts, but when decorating your office, you should also think specifically about your own desk. In addition to a system of order, the right decoration can create a good atmosphere. Desk calendars, memo boards for collecting ideas and notes, or a nice clock are perfect for the job.

Of course, it is above all a few selected personal items that contribute to the feel-good factor at work: photos or small souvenirs have a great effect. And treat yourself to a bouquet of flowers every now and then. It will put you in a good mood at work, I promise!
